Most shirt numbers are set in typefaces with so-called low contrast. This means that all strokes have about the same thickness. As a result the figures are rather dull and straightforward. Figures with a visible contrast between thick and thin strokes are far more dynamic. They not only resemble strength and power, but also flexibility, creativity and elegance. They appeal to all qualities that are necessary for a good sports game. On the other hand shirt numbers aren’t meant to demonstrate ones calligraphic qualities; just like a good sports player the designer must find the right balance between beauty and efficiency. | ![]() | |||||
